CSS Lesson
I changed the blog around to see what I could do. Of course I used font stacks to change the different headers and the body text. At the moment they are mostly for me - my header fonts are rarer and probably only live on graphic designers' computers. My .post font is MS Mincho a Microsoft Japanese font with quirky Latin characters. The 07-08 Walker design fellow, Mylinh Trieu uses this font on her portfolio website - mylinhtrieu.com.
I added a background image and I made the background image attachment fixed so it wouldn't scroll and tile itself automatically. It is a scan of a blank photocopy that was colored in Photoshop and I set the size to the resolution of a 20" iMac -- just in case.
I changed the header container and main container so they were no longer centered. Now they are positioned absolutely 100 pixels from the left edge of the browser window.
I made the positioning of my widgets fixed so they wouldn't scroll. My proudest moments was being able to make another div class in order to have another column for another set of widgets.
With Christine's help I changed the opacity of the navigation iframe at the top of the page. I also changed its positioning so it wouldn't scroll away. I made the opacity 30%, but 50% when the mouse hovers over it in order to make it become more visible.

Dinner: Kale
On Saturday evening we got straight to work using the contents of our first CSA. For dinner we made Indian-spiced lentils with kale (Cooks Illustrated recipe). This dish was simple to make and very tasty. It used up all our kale nicely.
The lentils cooked in boiling water for about 20 minutes before the kale was added to the pot. Meanwhile, butter was heated in my shiny new copper pot. The aromatic spices were then sauted in the butter for about a minute before the garlic and ginger were added. Once the garlic and ginger were softened the cooked lentils and kale were added, as well as 1 cup of the salted water in which they were cooked.
We ate this with some good wheat bread which I thought was a good accompaniment. There was even a little left over for a light lunch the next day.
Poster
Last week I designed and screen printed a poster for an upcoming show at the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro. The show is Om (monastic chant doom metal), Six Organs of Admittance (freak folk), and Lichens (improvisational drone). The poster is three colors and is inspired by Om's celestial motifs.
